VERTICAL MODULE!!1073 MIC PREAMP & EQUALISER Launched in 1970, the original 1073 is perhaps the world’s most famous and desirable microphone preamp. The first choice of countless leading producers and artists, the 1073 delivers the unique Neve sound featured on some of the most famous recordings of the past 30 years. The big, punchy sound of the 1073 compliments any musical genre—from rock to pop, hip-hop to rap, thrash to classical. Handcrafted and completely hand-wired by Neve’s dedicated professionals in Burnley, England, the modern-day 1073 is produced to the same exacting specifications of the original modules. Considerable resources have been devoted to the acquisition of the same original components to ensure the sound remains true. While other manufacturers are content with merely copying the original 1073, Neve has remained faithful to the original, right down to the component level. Looking for an outside opinion? Lynn Fuston at EQ Magazine performed an in-depth review of the modern-day 1073 versus a vintage model. We think you’ll find his conclusions quite comforting: http://www.eqmag.com/story.asp?sectioncode=39&storycode=4720. Where advances in manufacturing and testing have yielded greater consistency from unit to unit, Neve has welcomed such improvements. However, not all things lend themselves to enhancement. Case in point: audio transformers. While other manufacturers are content to use replacements, AMS Neve insists on the original Carnhill-built transformer, for which Neve owns the copyright. That is why only a genuine Neve sounds like a Neve. The Class A design 1073 microphone preamplifier features 3 bands of EQ, with one fixed high frequency band, two switchable bands with cut and boost capability, and a high pass filter. All Neve channel amplifiers are designed to accept signals from a wide range of microphone and line sources. The Neve 1073 mic pre and EQ combination adds warmth and depth to recordings, brings out subtle ambience, maintains spatial positioning, and more effectively captures a precise image. That’s why the 1073 mic preamp is considered by many to be the very essence of the Neve sound. Originally fitted to the custom console for Wessex A88, the 1073 module was used extensively during the 1970s on the Neve Consoles that helped define recording techniques for a generation of classic records. The Neve 1073 is the most sought after, and most copied microphone preamplifier in the world. It is small wonder that when asked which one piece of audio gear they could not live without, more professionals chose the Neve 1073 than any other single item.

The Neve 33609 Stereo Compressor offers comprehensive limiting and compression facilities for music recording, mastering, post production and broadcast applications. The combination of hand-wired transformers and gain reduction circuitry produces a sound quality which is often duplicated, yet seldom achieved by any other compressor / limiter. Coupled with the unit’s unparalleled ease of use, this inimitable sound quality has made the 33609 a worldwide studio standard for three decades.
The hallmark 33609 compression sound is very smooth, and extreme settings may be used with the compression or limiting remaining relatively transparent. After several versions of this classic Neve compressor over the years, today's 33609 provides the best of both worlds: original Neve 33609 sound, with enhanced internal and external I/O switching compared to the original model. The 33609 also utilises a discrete output stage like the original model, for a slightly warmer sound that is preferred by many professionals over previous iterations. Multiple units can be easily linked for multi-channel operation.
The 33609 features independent sidechains for the compressor and limiter sections, with similarly independent threshold, recovery and attack controls. The compressor features a selection of ratios from 1.5:1 to 6:1 and a gain make-up control that comes before the limiter. Overall gain reduction is indicated on a moving coil meter.
Much like our classic 1073 and 1081 microphone preamplifiers, the 33609 Stereo Compressor is often cited as a "desert island" compressor - one which a healthy sampling of the world’s top engineers and producers would choose above all others.

Mounts 1 or 2 4081 units into a 19" rack enclosureThis 3-part kit consists of 2x rack-mount 'ears', 1x blank plate and all fastening hardware. To mount 2 4081's into a 19"rack enclosure, fasten the 2 units together, then use the 2 rack-mount 'Ears' - one on either side.To mount one unit, fasten an 'ear' to one side of the unit and the blank plate to the other side of the unit. All front panels are supplied in Neve heritage blue.
The expansion board is fitted internally to a 4081 unit and has two modes of operation, determined by whether a FireWire connection is detected or not.
Mode 1 - Standalone (no FireWire detected):
The 4 analogue outputs from the 4081 Mic Pre or Insert are mapped to the two stereo AES OUTPUTS. The two stereo AES INPUTS are mapped to the 4 analogue outputs – these are simply an AES to analogue convertor. The 4 analogue outputs are also available on the 25 way d-type on the back of the main 4081 unit.
If no sync input is detected (either Wordclock or AES), then the expansion board runs on internal sync and the sample rate is selected by the UP/DOWN buttons on the front panel.
If a valid sync input is detected, then the sample rate is automatically calculated and indicated on the front panel.
External AES EBU cable lengths are limited to 100M.
Mode 2 – FireWire detected:
Multiple 4081 units can be cascaded onto one FireWire stream, or starred back to the FireWire card. There is currently a limit in the driver of 4 units per FireWire stream. 4 units gives 16 IN and 16 OUT on a single DAW connection if using FireWire, but the available bandwidth allows 16 IN and 16 OUT at 192kHz.
The first unit in the chain becomes the master, and provides the sync to the other 4081 units either via FireWire or Wordclock. Supports ASIO driver – the sample rate is set via the DAW software driver.
4081 Quad Mic Preamp
Four Classic Mic Preamps, One Powerful Remote-Controlled UnitThe 4081 Quad Mic Preamp builds on the incredible success of the 1081 and 1081R modules and provides both powerful control and legendary Neve sound.Perfect for vocals, ADR and Foley Recording, the 4081's features make it the number one choice for any studio, OB truck or live stage environment.
Every function of the 4081 can be controlled directly from the front panel or by remote control using a Mac or PC with Neve Remote Control software. This provides a simple and elegant solution for users of ProTools, Nuendo, Cubase and similar DAW systems. Multiple 4081 units can be linked together to create up to 64 independent channels of Mic Preamps or Line Level inputs – all controlled from a single computer.
An optional Digital card provides a FireWire/AES interface with four channels of A/D conversion to either AES or FireWire. An insert point is available before the A/D converter on each channel to allow external, analogue Outboard equipment to be switched into the signal path. Four channels of AES-to-analogue or FireWire-to-analogue conversion are also available. An optional 19" rack-mount kit can be used to securely mount one or two 4081 units into a 19" rack enclosure.Highlights
